What do you write?
Character driven young adult fiction with a dark bent. If I can cram politics and/or Richard III in there, even better – but I’ll settle for less. I’m currently writing a pseudohistorical fantasy novel about an island after a civil war.
Pen & paper or computer & printer?
Fountain pen and paper! Although it always tricks me, because I think I’ve written more than I have.
Where do you write? Where would you like to write?
I’m a First Mate on a passenger boat, so I spent several summers writing below deck as we trawled the Gloucester-Sharpness canal.
I also once sat in an election count scribbling on the back of a piece of scrap paper whilst the EU ballots were validated. At three o’clock in the morning. Can’t say that’s ever been used anywhere else…
Which do you enjoy more – researching, writing or editing?
Researching: I spend a lot of time hunting through ODNB or history books to find people who’ve been through similar things to my characters. Even if I’m not writing something strictly historical, it finds a way to sneak in.
Does your Litmus entry have a soundtrack?
Yep, and it can be found here. As a rule, I tend to write with InnerPartySystem or Stone Sour as my background: something fast, with a strong beat.
